Being able to manage construction and renovation projects is a key component of success as a golf course superintendent. Almost every course has some sort of ongoing renovation or master plan as time goes

on. I have been directly associated with numerous projects both large and small, with great success. In today’s golf world courses are constantly considering or are in-process with restoration projects, and a

superintendent must be able to work this into the routine operation, working with contractors and

architects while also finding ways to “get things done” with in-house staff.

Some of the projects I have experience with include complete course renovations, green extensions,

bunker renovations, irrigation/drainage instillation and new maintenance facility construction. Additional details on these projects are included below the images on this page.

Master Planning & Office Skills

An afterthought for most of my peers, the ability to understand architecture and then be able to accurately discuss and offer insight, is something that I can perform well for my club. It’s not always about working in the field, but being skillful in meeting discussions and computer or office requirements. I have had direct experience in utilizing various software to assist in planning projects and in creating detailed, yet easy-to-understand training aides to assist in our operation during projects.

Collection and run off areas

Shaped and re-grassed to low mow turf on greens complexes areas. Added definition and character to the hole. A Classic Donald Ross feature.

Compound and bunker work

Re-grassed to pure bluegrass turf. Reclaimed bunker edge and shape. Removed unwanted turf species.

Driving Range tee

Shaped and resurfaced existing tee. Facilitated in the construction of state of the art matting system along with paver walk-way.

Fairway Contouring

Reclaimed shaping of fairways. Removed unnecessary fairway areas and replaced them with fairway turf. Moved fairway turf to new locations adding shape back into the fairway.

Greens Undulations

Reclaimed original undulations on green surfaces. After years of top dressing, bunker play, and aeration greens slopes have a tendency to become excessive. Removed this material and replaced with existing sod. This also helps with surface drainage.

Master Plan Renovation

Active in the preparation of a master plan for course restoration. Working with Manager of Golf Courses and Grounds, golf course architects, PGA professionals, greens committee, and architectural review committee.

New Maintenance Facility

Participated in the planning and construction process of new 30,000 sq. foot maintenance facility. Focusing on fiscal responsibility.

Tee Squaring

Reclaimed tee shape by squaring off the teeing surface for visual look and maintenance practices.
